There are 26 alphabets (A-Z) in English and we use these 26 alphabets to make a word. There are two types of letters in the alphabet: consonants and vowels. The basic difference is how the sound is produced through the mouth.

 

Consonants:-  The majority of letters in the alphabet are consonant letters. Most consonant letters have only one sound and rarely sound like their name.

Vowels:- Five of the 26 alphabet letters are vowels: AEIO, and U. The letter Y is sometimes considered a sixth vowel because it can sound like other vowels.

What is word?

Word is a group of alphabets which gives us meaning. We need minimum two alphabets to make a word.

Example:- go, ask, bat etc.

 

What is the use of words?

With the help of words we can make a phrase, clause and sentence.

 

Note:- We will learn about the phrase and clause in the next version of this book.

 

What is sentence?

Sentence is a group of words that gives a sense, idea or thought.

Read the following sentences:-

·       I am a boy.

·       She is a girl.

·       I get up early in the morning.

·       I take a shower.

·       What do you do?

·       Are you Mansi?

·       Where do you live?

·       Please come in.

·       Wow! What a nice dress.

 

       There are four types of sentences:-

·      Declarative

·      Imperative

·      Exclamatory

·      Interrogative
