Past simple tense

Past activities: - We have learnt about daily routine sentence making process or we can say the uses of V1. It means we have learnt about simple present tense. Now we are going to learn about the uses of V2. It means we will learn past simple tense. A verb can be changed in respect of time. So when we have to say something about our past activities, we use second form of verb (V2).

 

The past simple tense is a verb tense used to describe actions or events that occurred in the past and have already been completed. It is also sometimes called the simple past tense. It is often used to indicate a single completed action in the past.

 

The past simple tense is formed by adding -ed to regular verbs and using the second form of irregular verbs.

 

For example:

Regular verb: walk → walked

Irregular verb: eat → ate

 

Here are some examples of sentences in the past simple tense:

 

- I ate breakfast this morning.

- She walked to the park yesterday.

- They played basketball after school.

- He took a nap after lunch.

- We went to the beach on Saturday.

After that, I took my lunch break and talked with my friends. I came back home at two o’clock. I watched TV. I did my homework and helped my mother in the house. I went to playground and played with my friends yesterday. I went to bed and slept at ten o’clock.

As we know subject and predicate play important role to make a sentence.  In ‘subject’ we use noun or pronoun and in predicate ‘verbs’ are very important. Now we will learn how to use verbs according to the sense of time in a sentence. We will start with this simple formula (use of V1) “Sub+ verb”.

 

Just follow this simple rule “I+ action” and start your beautiful journey for sentences making process

Verb plays important role in a sentence. We can change a verb in respect of time. This is the beauty of the verb. Verb has its forms. We have different form of verbs. We start learning about verb from its "first form" which is also known as V1 of verb. We use V1 in present simple tense.

The present simple tense is a verb tense used to describe actions or events that happen regularly, habits, general truths, or scheduled events. It is also called the simple present tense.

To form the present simple tense, we use the base form (V1) of the verb 

Here are some examples of sentences in the present simple tense:

- I eat breakfast every morning.

- I walk to work every day.

- They play basketball on weekends.

- I take a nap after work.

- Our school starts at 8 AM.

Overall, the present simple tense is used to describe actions or situations that are regular, habitual, or timeless.

 

·       I speak English.

·       We jump.

·       They go to school.

·       I get up early in the morning.

·       I take a shower.

 

These are some daily routine actions which we perform every day:- Wake up, brush, take a shower, eat, go, study, Play, come, watch, talk, help, do homework, sleep.

I get up at six o’clock in the morning every day then I wash my face and brush my teeth.  I take a shower. Then I take my breakfast and go to school. There I meet with my friends and study. I play with my friends. I come back home at two o’clock and eat my lunch with my family every day. I take some rest in afternoon. I go to park. I play football with my friends. I come home and take a bath. Then I watch T.V. I do my homework. After that I take dinner with my family and go for a walk. I speak English. I help my mother. I go to bed and sleep at ten o’clock every day.

Pronoun is a word that can replace a noun in a sentence.

A pronoun is a word that takes the place of a noun in a sentence. It helps to avoid repetition and makes the sentence flow better. Here are the different types of pronouns:

 

1. Personal pronouns: These pronouns refer to specific people or things and the relationship they have with the speaker (first person), the person spoken to (second person), or the person or thing spoken about (third person). Examples include:

 

- First person: I, me, we, us

- Second person: you

- Third person: he, him, she, her, it, they, them

 

2. Reflexive pronouns: These pronouns reflect back to the subject of the sentence. They always end in '-self' or '-selves'. Examples include: myself, yourself, himself, herself, itself, ourselves, themselves.

 

- Example: I hurt myself while playing football.

 

3. Demonstrative pronouns: These pronouns point to specific people or things. Examples include: this, that, these, those.

 

- Example: This is my book.

 

4. Relative pronouns: These pronouns introduce a subordinate clause in a sentence and relate to the noun or pronoun preceding them. Examples include: who, whom, whose, which, that.

 

- Example: The book that you gave me is interesting.

 

5. Interrogative pronouns: These pronouns are used to ask questions. Examples include: who, whom, whose, which, what.

 

- Example: Who is coming to the party?

 

6. Indefinite pronouns: These pronouns refer to nonspecific people or things. Examples include: anyone, someone, nobody, everybody, anything, something, nothing, each, either, neither, many, few, some, all, most.

2. These are objective pronoun and we use these as an object in a sentence.

3. These are possessive pronoun and we use these to show possession in a sentence.

NOUN

Naming word= noun

Noun is a naming word that tells us name of anything. It may be name of person, animal, place or anything.

Person – A name for a person: - Mansi, Yash, Pinki etc.

Animal – A name for an animal: - dog, cat, tiger etc.

Place – A name for a place: - London, India, Delhi etc.

Thing – A name for a thing: - bat, ball, chair, window etc.

Idea – A name for an idea: - devotion, superstition, happiness, excitement, etc.

Types of noun:- There are four types of noun.

·       Proper noun

·       Common noun

·       Collective noun

·       Abstract noun

 

Proper Noun

A proper noun is a naming word that tells us only about a single person, place, or thing. In written English, a proper noun always begins with capital letters.

Example:-  Aradhaya, Africa, London, Monday, January, Delhi.
